- Martin Swan Swanson was born oct. 30, 1891 in Baldwin, St. Croix Co. , Wisconsin. son of Svend Svendsen & Dorthea Marie Danielsen., who are buried in in Baldwin, Wisconsin cemetery & also a brother Norman Leonard Swanson is buried there. no grave stone. Martin Swan Swanson married Laura Mathilda Selma (Pollmann) Howe may 15, 1921 in Glencoe, Minnesota. She was adopted by the Howe family in Glencoe, Minn. when her parents divorced. She was born Oct. 31, 1902 in Rich Valley twp. dtr. of Rudolph Friedrich Pollmann & Abby Selma Olive Tillie Grabowitz, who was also adopted , by Eilers family when her mother died in child birth. Martin S. Swansons children were Mrs. Lillian Mielke, Mrs. Gloria Robertson, Mrs. Loretta D. Swanson, Mrs. Delores Lobitz, Mr. Leonard Swanson. Mrs. Lola Peterson, Miss Joycelyn Swanson. Martin S. Swanson died Oct. 30, 1987 in Glencoe, Minn.. He was a mechanic, & pvt. in 3rd. Army division in Germany 9 months & France 3 months, in WWI. Enlisted July 16, 1918 at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Service number 3369940. Discharged Oct. 1, 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey. His enlistment & discharge papers are on ancestry.com public trees website. good for VFW mens or womens auxiliary membership or American legion mens SAL or womens auxiliary membership. He worked for the Ford dealership in Glencoe, Minn. for 50 plus years. Hhe invented several car engine parts the ford motor co. never paid him for. He once fixed the engine problem on famous cross atlantic aviator Charles Lindberg's airplane, when it made a emergency landing in a field outside of Glencoe, Minn.. He liked to dance & do the Minneapolics Tribune newspaper puzzell contest every day. he had a big garden & Grape orchard. He Always smiled. To find his grave take Mallon road north at entrance flagpole by administrator center bldg., to very short right onto Peck Avenue, then left on Rosenwald st. north, to north outer drive intersection. grave is just a few feet north of this intersection. Wife Laura died March 6, 1997 in Watertown, Minn.. Martin Wm. Johnson grandson & Tara A. Johnson his Grt. Grand Dtr. are in Belvidere, Illinois. [1]
