- LaVerne Patricia Otness, age 94, passed away July 19, 2015. She was born in Pigeon Falls, Wisconsin to Elvina and Casper Skorstad. Her family moved to Seattle in 1925 and she spoke only Norwegian until age 9. Her dad worked on the Denny Hill Regrade project. As a child she recalled ice skating on Greenlake. She attended John B. Allen Elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939. Her many jobs including selling shoes at Nordstroms Best, modeling hats at Frederick and Nelsons, cocktail waitress at the WAC and clerical work at Fuller Brush and for the US Coast Guard.
She married Stanley Otness and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2005. They spent most of their life in the Lynnwood area and enjoyed road trips to both coasts and Canada. She cared about animals and rescued baby birds that fell out of their nests. She is preceded in death by her husband Stan and sister Mavis Norton in 2012. She is survived by her daughters Lisa (Jim) and Kathy (Denny) with grandchildren Tricia and Chad (Rachel), great grandchildren Courtney, Zachary, Jaden, Jeb, Journey and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Laverne's life will be planned for this Fall. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the charity of your choice .
