- Alma Churness 1901-1990
Alma Olivia Churness, 89, passed away at the Fosston Municipal Nursing Home in Fosston on Sunday, April 22, 1990. Mrs. Churness was born February 12, 1901 in Polk County to parents Erick and Christina Jacobson. She was married to Sidney Churness on May 14, 1921 in Gonvick. The Churness's moved to Greenwood Township, Clearwater County in 1927 and lived and farmed there until retirement in 1959, when they moved to Clearbrook. Mrs. Churness was a member of Elim Lutheran Brethren Church of Clearbrook and its Mission Friends Circle. She was a charter member of the American legion Auxiliary Number 256 in Clearbrook, a Good Samaritan Home Auxiliary member and a member of the Clearbrook Senior Citizens Organization.
Alma is survived by seven daughters: Elenora Baanrud of Clearbrook, Viola, Mrs. Andy Anderson of Silver Bay, Ruth, Mrs. Helmer Hanson of Gonvick, Alberta, Mrs. Harold Berglund, of Fosston, Ardella, Mrs. Marvin Lindberg, of Leonard, Betty, Mrs. Don Sorenson of Baudette, Karen, Mrs. Vern Vogh of Crystal; two sons, Harvey of Two Harbors, and Melvin of Clearbrook; two brothers, Roy and John Jacobson both of Bagley; twenty nine grandchildren; forty five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney, June 10, 1979; three brothers and one sister; one grandson and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services for Mrs. Churness were held on Wednesday, April 25, 1990, at 11 a.m. in the Elim Lutheran Brethren Church of Clearbrook. The Rev. Paul Knutson officiated and burial was made in the Clearwater Cemetery north of Clearbrook under the direction of the Cease Funeral Home of Bagley. [1]
